Seeing Through

This past year I stepped onto a new path and began to work for Habitat for Hope, a ministry that supports, serves and cares for families facing the serious or life-threatening illness of a child.   A game changer for sure!!

This path has been marked with…

Joy and sorrow
Faith and fear
Energy and weariness
Gain and loss
Hope and Despair

God has used the moments of this past year to poke some serious holes in the canvas of my life.   And yet, looking through those holes, I have begun to see, really see, glimpses of His glory. Author Ann Voskamp in her book, “One Thousand Gifts“,  describes it this way “That which tears open our souls, those holes that splatter our sight may actually become the thin, open places to see through the mess of this place to the heart-aching beauty beyond.  To Him.  To the God whom we endlessly crave.”

I want to see through the mess.  I want to experience heart-aching beauty. So many times I simply settle for looking at the mess, talking about the mess, living the mess.

The truth is that  we cannot eliminate the mess….YET.  Life is messy.  It is full of disappointment, loss, tragedy, betrayal, apathy.  However, we can choose to look through the mess and see the One who has conquered death and is in the process of cleaning up the mess.

Thanks to my friend, Beth, for taking this beautiful image that captures my thoughts so well.   This picture makes me want to head into the woods and bask in the warmth of the sun!!  It makes me eager to explore new paths.  Who wants to go hiking?   You never know what’s around the bend….
