Holy New Year

Has 2012 been a happy year?  I wonder why we say Happy New Year.  Where in the world did that tradition come from?

One of my favorite books is “Sacred Marriage” and the basic premise is this, “what if God designed marriage to make us holy instead of happy?”  Kind of runs pretty contrary to all the disney movies where the prince and princess live happily ever after. I received an email from Word Press that lists my top viewed posts for 2012.  The crazy thing is that the post I wrote entitled “The Dark Side of Marriage” topped the charts by a LONG SHOT.  Based on the responses and feedback I received from this post, as we head into the new year, so many of us are longing for beautiful marriages. As we head into 2013, I personally need to remember words like sacrifice, service, forgiveness, compassion, kindness, gentleness and understanding.

Whether we are married or not, I wonder if God is begging for us to stop thinking about our own personal happiness and begin to think more about His holiness and pouring out our lives on His behalf.

Maybe we should wish one another a Holy New Year for 2013!!
